Sony Ericsson Gives Xperia Users: Get Free 50GB Cloud Storage!

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia –In order to promote the sharing of photos between multiple devices during the holiday season, Sony Ericsson is offering all Xperia users a free, lifetime membership to Box, a cloud storage application, with 50GB worth of space.

This promotion is applicable to every Xperia smartphone owner, including the Xperia X10 and those that were released after it.

To redeem this great gift, users simply have to sign in to their Box account through the Box for Android application and they will have free cloud storage for life. All you have to do is download the Box app from Android Marketplace, log in from your Xperia phone, and that's it. You'll be free to access your photos, music, videos and more from wherever you are, as long as you have an Internet connection.

The Box promotion will run until Dec 31 2012, and is available to all consumers worldwide who own any Xperia smartphone, including those released after Xperia X10. So, that'll include the Xperia Arc, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Arc S, Xperia Ray, Xperia Neo and Xperia Play, among others.

Cloud storage is growing in popularity. Steve Jobs tried to buy Dropbox, though when it spurned his advances he did then slam it in a subsequent keynote.

Xperia and Box will provide consumers with access to a massive amount of content on-the-go putting their smartphone at the very heart of their connected lifestyle. Unlike a similar promotion by HP for desktop computers, Sony Ericsson is giving away the storage for life, without any time limit or other restrictions. It is likely that the deal can be had on second hand Xperia handsets as long as they haven't been registered previously. Box services more than eight million individuals and more than 100,000 businesses globally. Box.net did a similar offer for iPad, iPhone and iPod users back in October, and Blackberry PlayBook fans and TouchPad buyers back in August 2011. It's worth noting that the price of the Box.net account is $19.99 per month, albeit with a 1GB file limit.

With people taking more pictures, listening to more music and watching more video on their Xperia smartphone than ever before, especially over the holidays, we wanted to make sure that they had the ability to upload their content to the cloud and share it across multiple devices. Xperia and Box will provide consumers with access to a massive amount of content on the go putting their smartphone at the very heart of their connected lifestyle," commented

- Peter Ang, Hub General Manager, Singapore and Malaysia, Sony Ericsson.

Box co-founder and CEO Aaron Levie added: "As more people take their personal devices to work to take full advantage of mobile computing, it's essential that they never have to worry about storage limitations."

With file sharing and storage from Box, Xperia users can access their content from anywhere across multiple devices and applications with extreme ease. Xperia users can also manage an immense amount of content in the cloud with 50GB of free storage, the equivalent of approximately 50,000 documents, photos and presentations.
